About United Law

Trethowans LLP, a leading law firm in the South of England, has been providing a comprehensive range of legal services to its business and individual clients for over 150 years

In addition to servicing the needs of its own clients, Trethowans LLP  has also been providing support and assistance to law firms in Dorset, Hampshire, Wiltshire and West Sussex since 2009 – and formally launched United Law in April 2014

The main purpose for setting up United Law was to enable law firms to help each other direct without involving third parties

As a member of United Law, you will be able to provide your clients with access to a full range of legal services – without running the risk of losing them (there is a written Non-Poach Agreement)

Circumstances under which members are likely to refer clients to United Law include the following:

  • The member firm does not have the capacity to deal with the work themselves
  • There is a conflict of interest and the member firm are unable to act for their client
  • The member firm are asked by new/existing clients for advice on areas of law they don’t specialise in

Members can also refer clients where the value of the work will exceed their Professional Indemnity Insurance cover

It’s free to join United Law and, as a member, you will be able to:

  • Attend our free CPD seminars / networking events
  • Call our free telephone enquiry line
  • Receive discounts / preferential rates on services offered by our suppliers
  • Receive fee shares for matters referred to United Law (which are not publicly funded / where fee sharing is prohibited by law / the Legal Services Commissions Regulations) where the work is undertaken by Trethowans LLP

Membership of United Law means you should never have to turn a client away. If Trethowans LLP are unable to assist, we will use our best endeavours to find someone who can (in addition to our United Law members, we have links with other regional law firms running similar networks throughout the country)

Much as I like the autonomy of being an independent law firm, it’s great to know that we have back up and support from a wider range of legal experience in order to assist us in meeting our clients’ needs and expectations.  I’m therefore pleased to be a member of United Law

Churchers Bolitho Way are pleased to be associated with / members of United Law.  They offer an impressive service – and provide support when we are unable to deal with particular matters (for whatever reason) which we know will be handled with care and sensitivity

We have been members of United Law since it was started in April 2014.  We have used it for seminars and as an opportunity to ask Trethowans to assist with work that we do not cover within our niche firm.  The seminars that we have attended have been well organised and useful.  Where we have referred work to Trethowans, we have been kept informed of progress and can report that our clients have been delighted with the service received.  An added bonus is the fee shares we receive (where appropriate)
